My Starbucks habit is finally being put to good use…After racking up 15 points and achieving “Gold Level” status, I earned another 15 points and just received my first free drink certificate! Venti Skinny Vanilla Latte anyone?

For as long as I can remember talking about education, the notions that Middle School is “awful” and that “kids that age are mean” have just been broadly accepted. A federal study was released yesterday that contains the statistic that 1 in 4 Middle School students in Massachusetts deal with bullying in school.

Why are we so willing to accept this behavior as the norm, and in so doing, allow for a huge population of students to have a negative experience at school? What would happen to a company if a quarter of the employees reported being harassed at work?

New meat.

One of my new year’s resolutions this year was to try new meat. What started out as a joke became a serious mission. Here’s my progress so far:

1. Pig’s Feet
2. Sweetbreads
3. Chicken liver
4. Veal Kidneys
5. Blood sausage
6. Beef tartare
7. Rabbit
8. Miscellaneous pig products in charcuterie
9. Blowfish
10. Baracuda
11. Chicken sausage

Stay tuned. Post Thailand, I’m hoping this list is exponentially longer.

I want it.

Stupid no sugar, no leavened bread diet. 3 more weeks and then I am making THIS.

Quote
"Rabbit’s clever,” said Pooh thoughtfully.
“Yes,” said Piglet, “Rabbit’s clever.”
“And he has Brain.”
“Yes,” said Piglet, “Rabbit has Brain.”
There was a long silence.
“I suppose,” said Pooh, “that’s why he never understands anything."

I usually spend my 2pm slump stalking people from high school on Facebook. Today, I tried to be a bit more socially conscious and spent the pre-3pm-green-tea lull in my day playing this. Really makes you think about what things would be like if you were poor. Although…as a grad student/non-profit employee with a love of designer clothes and a subsequently tight budget, this isn’t actually that far off.
